Huchuy Qosqo Trek and Machu Picchu - 2 Days

This short trek of 10km / 6.2Miles is perfect for families with children and those who want to enjoy the views of the mountains and the sacred valley from above, get to visit Machu Picchu the following day traveling by train.


It is possible to explore the highlands of the sacred valley combining with Machu Picchu the following day. The two-day Huchuy Qosqo Trek offers you the opportunity to enjoy the scenery in the Cusco’s Andes, lagoons, Incan sites and more. The archeological site, located in the mountains in the Sacred Valley was built possibly before the Incan empire expansion, Huchuy Qosqo got to be the residence of Wiraqocha Inca ruler.


Day 1

To begging the adventure, we will leave Cusco city at 6:00 am driving toward Chinchero at 3,700m, this is a traditional village well known for its textiles, where locals still use ancestral Incan weaving tools and methods.
Piuray, is the lagoon in Chinchero not frequently mentioned during the Sacred Valley tours. However, it supplies water to Cusco city. We will begin the trek uphill to the lookout point, from where we will have a panoramic view of the lake and some villages surrounding it, after a brief break taking photos, we will continue on for 1.5 hours to Huchuy Qosqo pass at 4,550m/14,927ft, from where we will appreciate the views of valley and mountains; From the pass, we head downhill to Huchuy Qosqo Inca site, on the way, we will pass through Puma Marca village (3,780m/ 12,401ft), further down, we will get to a beautiful small cannon, with wooden breaches going across, suddenly we will enter to a particular open area from where we will see the Urubambamba valley. The trail continues until Huchuy Qosqo Inca site, the guide will take you to explore and explain about the site. Afterward, we will continue downhill for two hours to Lamay village, from where we will drive to Ollantaytambo where we will take the train toward Aguas Calientes town, this is the final destination before we visit Machu Picchu.

Day 2

Early in the morning you will catch the bus up to Machu Picchu, today make sure you are carrying your passport to enter the citadel, once in the citadel, the guide will give you a background information about Machu Picchu, and then he will take you to explore the important enclosures and sectors in the citadel. After 2 hours guided tour, you will have plenty of time for further exploration on your own.
Note: If you purchased the admission tickets for Waynapicchu Mt or Machu Picchu Mt, your guide will give you some instructions before you leave, it take 1.5 to 2 hours back and forth for Wayna Picchu and 3 hours for Machu Picchu Mountain.
The guide will meet you at Aguas Calientes town for lunch. Afterward, take the train tw back to Ollantaytambo, a private transportation will drive you back to Cusco.
